A Modern OEE Solution – Want a tour? By Brian Premock, Sales Director, InSource Solutions Digital Transformation is a hot topic for manufacturing today and we often receive questions on where to start. There is no one-size fits all approach as each company’s most pressing issues vary as well as their readiness to “digitize” their operations. However, we have found Downtime Tracking and OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) projects are often seen as low risk, high-value entry points in this area. OEE is an excellent benchmarking tool to improve process performance and to find lost production capacity. It can be tempting to tackle a project of this type by simply selecting the software and standing up a quick point solution. But, we often see this technology first approach fail and despite the investment, the platform is ignored, regarded as inaccurate or even abandoned. On the other end of the spectrum, we have worked with many clients that achieved significant improvements with a more thoughtful approach to OEE deployments. This typically involves front-end planning to align people, process and technology to create a culture of continuous improvement necessary to deploy a solution that will become a long-term asset for the company. In our most recent video, our team tours an OEE application from a very successful client program. While the solution is built from off-the-shelf software, we’ve emphasized how it has been tailored to the client’s people and process to make it an indispensable program that has generated millions of dollars in documented cost savings. It’s our hope it might present ideas on OEE implementation that will provide the same benefits for you. Watch the video here.
