Behind the Scenes: 30 Years of Transforming Manufacturing with David Wilt
At InSource Solutions, we’re passionate about giving our clients the tools and expertise they need to thrive in the manufacturing industry. Behind every success story, a dedicated Operations Architect makes it all happen. Today, we’re shining a spotlight on one of our longest-standing Operations Architects, a true expert in digital transformation with over 30 years of experience. His story offers a glimpse into the consulting world, showing the human side of technology and the power of relationships.
The manufacturing industry has come a long way—from the first sparks of the Industrial Revolution to the powerful technologies of Industry 4.0. What once ran on steam engines and assembly lines has evolved into a world powered by data, automation, and AI. Yet, even as the industry has transformed, some have grown alongside it, evolving with each new wave of technology and innovation.
David Wilt, Operations Architect, began his career in food manufacturing, gradually building depth and expertise with each new client. For him, every project is a chance to grow, evolving his technical skills while staying true to one constant: the importance of culture and leadership. With each engagement, he creates an environment where meaningful transformation can take root.
Interestingly, consulting wasn’t part of David’s original plan. “Honestly, I needed a job 30 years ago,” he laughs. “I didn’t know much about consulting—just that I’d be helping clients reach their goals.” Fast-forward a few decades, and David is now hooked on the thrill of the work. Every day brings fresh challenges, new people to connect with, and opportunities to make a real impact. That blend of discovery and hands-on problem-solving keeps him engaged, mission-driven, and ready for whatever comes next.
Mastering the Role and the Tools
David has worn many hats over the years, building expertise across various areas. From Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) to full-scale Digital Transformations, he approaches every project passionately to make each one count.
With certifications in Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and Quality Management, David combines deep technical expertise with a talent for connecting on a personal level. He’s known for making complex software feel like second nature, guiding clients to weave new tools naturally into their routines. And his clients? They trust him completely, knowing he’s as invested in their success as they are.
People at the Core of Every Process
People are at the heart of every process. By understanding each individual’s strengths, needs, and influence within a team, David has found that he can help them reach their full potential. This people-first strategy fosters trust, allowing him to guide clients through each transformation phase with credibility and genuine insight.
He’s seen firsthand how empowering managers can create a ripple effect throughout an organization, turning change into a shared goal rather than a top-down directive. This collaborative approach turns challenges into opportunities, aligning teams around common objectives.
David’s blend of tech-savvy and people-first thinking has kept him at the forefront of transformation, helping clients adapt and thrive at every stage, including training. With his wealth of knowledge, David emphasizes that training is never just a “point and click” process with his clients. “It’s all about listening to the ‘Voice of the Customer,'” he explains. His approach starts with a town hall meeting introducing the software and customized training sessions, ensuring everyone—from frontline workers to leadership—sees how these tools bring value to their roles.
To ensure sustainability, David often uses a “Train the Trainer” model, equipping clients to build and maintain skills internally and integrate new processes into their existing Leader Standard Work (LSW). He says, “It’s about making improvements that feel natural, not forced.”
For over three decades, David has implemented changes and empowered clients to own and sustain them. His work at InSource embodies our mission to make technology accessible, adaptable, and human-centered. Whether leading an AVEVA training session or fine-tuning an MES process, he’s committed to helping clients build a stronger, more resilient future.
David’s journey at InSource Solutions represents more than just a career—it’s a testament to the transformative power of expertise rooted in people and technology. With every project, he reminds us that digital transformation isn’t just about technology; it’s about empowering people to adapt, grow, and thrive in a rapidly changing world. David has spent over 30 years implementing change and nurturing it, building environments where innovation can flourish and clients can genuinely succeed. His story is a reminder that behind every breakthrough, there’s a person—driven by purpose, devoted to progress, and dedicated to making a lasting impact.
